내장산은 노령산맥의 중간에 위치한 해발 763m의 그리높지 않은 산으로 전라북도 정읍시과 순창군, 전라남도 장성군에 걸쳐 있다. 가을철의 뛰어난 단풍은 수려한 산세와 조화를 이루어 호남의 금강이라 일컫고, 1971년에 국립공원으로 지정되었다. 소나무, 개자비나무, 팽나무, 단풍나무, 서어나무등 600여종의 자생식물과 각종 동물이 서식하고 있다. 굴거리나무 군락과 비자나무림은 천연기념물로 지정되어 있으며 장성을 중심으로 서삼면과 북하면에는 우리나라의 대표적인 삼나무와 편백나무 대단위 조림지가 수해를 이루고 있다.

(Mt. ) Naejangsan is low-elevated mountain with the elevation of 763m
located at the midpoint of (Mt. )Noryeongsan range, extending in Jeongeup-si and Sunchang-gun in the Jeollabuk-do and Jangseong-gun in the Jeollanam-do . It is said to be a (Mt. )Geumkangsan of the southwest area of this peninsula because colored foliages in the autumn is well harmonized with magnificent mountain configuration, and its was designated as a National Park in 1971. Celtis, maple, Carpinus laxflora in the mountain. Among them communities of Sloumi and Torreya were designated as Natural Monuments and in Seosam- myeon and Bukha-myeon around town of Jangsung there are large-scaled and the most representative plantations in Korea with species of Japanese cedar and Hinoki cypress.
