[명산ㆍ계곡] 오대산 ((Mt. )Odaesan)

오대산은 태백산맥과 차령산맥의 교차지점에 위치하고 평창군, 홍천군, 양양군에 걸쳐 넓게 분포하고 있는 해발 1,563m의 고산이다. 중대를 중심으로 동서남북으로 봉우리가 마치 연꽃과 같은 산세를 이루어 오대산이라고 불린다. 서대에는 우통수가 있는데 이는 한강의 발원지중 하나이다. 산록부에는 소나무, 전나무가 주를 이루고 계곡주변에는 다양한 활엽수류가 밀림을 이룬다. 1975년에 국립공원으로 지정되었고 동식물자원이 풍부하며 월정사와 5대적멸보궁인 상원사등 신라고찰이 있어 관광객이 끊이지 않고 있다.

Located at interesting area of (Mt.) Taebaeksan and (Mt. ) Charyungsan range, Mt. Odae is 1,563m high above the sea level and extends in Pyeongchang-gun, Hongcheon-gun, and Yangyang-gun of the Kangwon-do. Being centered at Jungdae peak, major peaks are spreding out into four directions and look like a blooming flower of lotusm, so that it has been named after. Around the Seodae peak area, there is a spring, called Utongsu, that is one of fountainheads draining into the Hangang river.
While forests around valleys show various brladleaved species.
Odae mountain, designated as a National Park in 1975, has attracted numerous visitors around a year because of plenty of plant and wildlife resources and ancient temples of Shilla-Dynasty including Woeljungsa (temple) and Sangwonsa (temple) that are among five great everlasting, treasured temples, so called Paradies Temples in Korea.
